2015 Marching Season so far...

8/27/2015

The Southern Alamance Marching Band had a very fun and successful band camp along with the start of afternoon rehearsals.  I would like to thank all of the parents/boosters with their help ranging from serving food, collecting paperwork, building props, and even instructing guard.  I feel that this is going to be a very successful and rewarding season.

MPA Performance

3/24/2015

Congratulations are deserved to the SAHS Wind Ensemble.  The performed for the Central District-West Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) at Asheboro High School on Monday 23, 2015,  They were judged by 3 judges who listened to the band's prepared pieces and gave a rating based on the criteria in their scoring rubric.  A portion of the MPA performance is a Sight-Reading selection. The director and students are given a piece of music no one has rehearsed before, given 5 minutes to look over the piece without playing, and then perform for a judge.  The rating system consists of 5 categories.

5-Poor
4-Below Average
3- Average
2- Excellent
1- Superior

The Southern Alamance has received a rating of Superior for the last four years.  We are all very proud of them and their accomplishments.

A special thanks to Dr. Adam Kehl (Elon University), Dr. Verena Mosenbichler-Bryant (Duke University),
Mr. Phillip Riggs (NC School of Science and Math), Dave Albert (retired, Leesville Road High School),        Phil Homiller (Asheboro High School), Ed Kimbrough (Northern Guilford High School), and Music & Arts for their support preparing the band to be able to perform at the best of their ability.  Thank you.

If you are interested in a recording of the performance and the performance at the Pre-MPA concert on March 17, please e-mail Mr. Morgan.

Pre MPA Concert

3/18/2015

Great job last night at the Pre MPA concert.  I was really proud at how the band maintained focus throughout the performance as well as the following rehearsal.  Please take the time to look over the notes from all clinicians we have had.  These can all be found under the Rehearsal Notes tab.  We've been very fortunate to have some very smart and talented clinicians come in to help us sound the best that we can.

MPA is Monday, March 23.  That leaves 2.5 rehearsals for us to polish the music and to really make it shine.  Come in class tomorrow to be prepared to work.  Keep the focus and drive as we so carefully prepare for our adjudication next week.

I am very proud of each and every one of you.

Keep practicing,

Dr. Mosenbichler-Bryant from                                                        Duke University visits Wind Ensemble

3/12/2015

Dr. Mosenbichler-Bryant is the director of the Duke Wind Symphony, the Duke Medicine Orchestra, and the Wind Symphony at the North Carolina School of the Arts.  She took time out of her busy schedule to help the Wind Ensemble prepare for our Pre-MPA Concert and then the real MPA on March 23. She was able to really dig deep into our hymn that we are playing and kept asking the performers "Where do you want this musical line to go?"

Her assistance, as well as the other clinicians we've had, are making the band sound fantastic.  Keep practicing and enjoy the beautiful music that is being made

Thanks to Phillip Riggs, from NC School of Science and Math, for coming out and assisting the Wind Ensemble in their preparation for upcoming concert and MPA performance.  The band really worked hard on Valley Forge March (King/Swearingen) and Overtura (Huckeby) and we made big improvements! Hopefully everyone took notes, if not they are found below.

Keep up the hard work and tomorrow Dr. Verena Mosenbichler- Bryant from Duke University will be visiting and assisting the band.
